Ugo Sheath – Urinary Sheath
Many men affected by urinary incontinence wear incontinence pads, but did you know there’s a more discreet alternative? Urinary sheaths (sometimes known as condom catheters) can be used as an effective way of managing male urinary incontinence.
Incontinence pads for men
For some men, wearing incontinence pads can have a negative impact on quality of life. They can feel uncomfortable and bulky, and the material can create a rustling noise on movement, making some people feel self-conscious. Incontinence pads are designed to absorb and wick moisture from urine away from the skin. However, if they’re not changed frequently enough, moisture can accumulate, and this can cause irritation to the skin in the genital area. In addition to this, there’s also the worry about smelling of urine – an unfortunate (and untrue) stigma which is sometimes associated with older people.
Urinary sheaths
Urinary sheaths can massively improve quality of life compared to individuals who use incontinence pads. It’s important individuals are offered a choice, able to select whichever product they think they’ll feel most comfortable using and supported in doing so.
Urinary sheaths are similar in appearance to a condom. They’re applied to the penis (either by the individual or their carer) and stay in place thanks to a skin-friendly adhesive on the inside of the sheath. There’s a soft, silicone tube on the end where a leg bag can be attached. Because urine drains directly into the leg bag, the surrounding skin remains dry. Odour is also less of a concern, as urine is contained within the leg bag. Urinary sheaths can also create a better experience in terms of patient dignity as they’re much more discreet and for many, can feel more hygienic.

Accompanying products for Ugo Sheath
The outlet tubing of Ugo Sheath means it’s compatible with all leg bags and night bags with a universal stepped connector, such as Ugo Leg Bags and Ugo 2L Drainage Bags. Fixation is also an important consideration. By fully supporting the weight of the filling leg bag, you can reduce tension on the sheath and you’ll achieve a longer-lasting fit. Why not try the Ugo Fix Sleeve (leg bag holder) to support the weight of the leg bag or the Ugo Fix Catheter Strap to secure the leg bag tubing in place?
